Description
I did everything with the 2b pencil in Painter 6 except the light and shade of the face were done by the airbrush of Painter 8. It was a practice of using pencil in painter.

By the way, simple is the purest form of good. If you can get your point across in as few lines as possible, you know you've really done a great job.
Finding something that could be improved was hard, but I think that the hair seems a bit blurred in spots compared with the crisp lineart of the rest of the picture (which may make the ear seem to far away, but I'm unsure as to that). That, and the slight shading of the face doesn't match with the lineart of the rest of the picture. These are minor nitpicks, however, and wonderful job.

Thx very much for thecreature's critique, it is one of the must useful critiques for me. Honestly, I didn't notice that point you mentioned about the shading of the face, but which is really good point. For this drawing I did the shading of the face in the last step, at the beginning I did tried to just use line to sketch the shading, but it didn't look good, and I really wanted a smooth and pretty face. So the airbrush just came up to my mind immediately, and it really worked. Since it was just my 2nd drawing done by painter, I was just not familiar enough with the tools in painter, and everything was done in just one layer, it was too risky to do the shading by line sketching.

I am assuming this is a "stylized" representation of your friend, unless she really does like an adorable manga character!
The black hair framing her face is a good contrast and the the slight suggestion of the hat and turtleneck sweater really lend to the success of this piece.
Question: Why did you use Painter 6 and Painter 8 for different parts of the drawing?
02/28/04 @074
02/28/04 @091
Other then that, its really nice. good job
02/28/04 @143
yes... i did it with a wacom tablet
02/28/04 @145
u r right, I used airbrush to paint the face , since I want to make a really smooth face, because line sketching is hard to make that effect.
02/28/04 @150
because the simulating effect of pencil in painter 8 is not as good as painter 6, the pencil of painter 6 looks more like real pencil, and painter 8 has more brushes for painting.
02/28/04 @151
oh... i am glad that my drawing can make u feel happy.... thx

In response to this I have to say that I think the slight blurring on the hair contrast well with the sharp edges of the rest of the piece and makes the face stand out from the framing hair.
The one thing that bother me about this piece is that the neck looks a little thin. Other than this I think its great and I look forward to seeing more of your people pictures.

Forget about all the nitpicking. What matters about an art piece is the feelings it evokes, and your drawing doesn't need any help for that.

To say I'm falling for that girl in the pic, would be an understatement. You've definitely portraited a girl there which I am sure bears equal or greater beauty in real life!
Great work Hendi!
